My professional identity & Vision.
My vision.
I believe design should always be fun, innovative and functional. I find designs that dare to be weird and fun super nice. Leaning into a certain style is something that I am totally into, even if this style is quite minimalistic in its nature. Playing it safe is something that I am not a fan of. Minimalistic design is okay, but continuously seeing it pop up everywhere is quite boring. I also believe that design should be innovative. It should be able to do something new, or help us with something. Creating something that already exists without a clear goal is like trying to fill a glass that is already filled with water, it is going to overflow. I always want designs to do something new, even if it is only a slight improvement.
I see a lot happening around me, definitely in design. It seems like companies are trying to ‘play it safe’ and all go for a more digital approach, and refrain from using physical buttons. I think that this is quite a shame. In the future we shouldn’t lose this physicality and really keep it in. I also believe that we as designers should look out for the future in the sense of durability. In my products I believe that the responsibility of making them sustainable is in our hands. Thinking about how you manufacture a product, it’s function and of which material your products are made can go a really long way in making the world a more sustainable place.
My skills.
I am an ambitious designer. I always feel the need to improve on my last work, and create products that reflect my vision and my professionalism. I believe my strengths lay in knowledge of back-end as well as front-end design. I have experience with multiple programming languages, and also with human centered design.
The combined knowledge that I have of both areas that were mentioned before make me a designer that can create something that is focused on the user, but is technically advanced.
Something that I also find really important is the aesthetics of products. Therefore I find a lot of my skill also lays here. I have continued to work on my sketching skills and on my aesthetics and design. Sketching products is a good way for me to explore different design options and implement these in my projects, therefore I had developing my sketching skills set as a goal in my earlier PDP.
In collaboration with others, I can be someone that takes a leading role, trying to get the best out of everyone of the group. I can also be someone that is quite excited and ambitious, but this is also a downside. It can happen that I am too focused on my own ideas, that I don’t listen to others, but this is something that gets better each project I work on. Last project I also noticed that if there are other strong personalities in the group, that this can keep me in my place more and create a better collaboration.
