Creative electronics: Life of Brian.
Another course that was part of project 2, is creative electronics. In this course we had to create a little ‘robot’ called Brian. Through the creation of this robot, we learned all about working with Arduino, more specifically prototyping with it. It was a nice learning experience, because I already had a bit of experience with Arduino. I was able to expand on the knowledge that I had, and broaden my view a bit more in working with Arduino.
We wanted to create a robot that was made to put on your desk, and show its emotion mainly through movement. It was a lot of work, but it paid of in the end. I learned a lot during this course: I learned about working with Arduino of course, but working with laser cutters for example was something that I wasn’t used to and for this course I wanted to use one. We also refrained from using stepper motors, which were supposed to be in the robot as well. It was quite unfortunate, but in the end it fit the concept behind our Brian better. You can see it as an iteration of our product. The only thing that I wasn’t satisfied with was the fact that we had to sort of rush the production of our Brian in the end, which made it a bit sloppy on the detailing. This is an experience that I am going to take with me for the next project and create an even better final result. Check the videos for a look behind the scenes.
